😖 Why Do Teeth Hurt? Let’s Find Out!

Uh-oh, toothache! If your child’s been complaining about sore teeth, it can be hard to figure out what’s going on. 🦷 Let’s explore some common reasons why teeth hurt and what you can do to help your little one feel better!

1. Cavities: The Sneaky Sugar Attack! 🍬

One of the most common reasons for a toothache is cavities. Cavities happen when sugary foods and drinks leave behind little bits of sugar that stick to your teeth. Bacteria love sugar and make acids that can eat away at the enamel (the outer part of your teeth), causing painful cavities. Ouch! 😬

How to help: Regular brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist can help keep cavities away. And don’t forget to eat healthy snacks!

2. Wiggly Baby Teeth 🦷

When a baby tooth is getting ready to fall out, it can sometimes cause discomfort. That loose tooth might wiggle and feel funny in your mouth before it finally comes out. But don’t worry—this is just your body making room for the grown-up tooth that’s ready to come in! 🌟

How to help: Encourage your child to gently wiggle the tooth. The Tooth Fairy will be on the way soon! 🧚‍♀️

3. Teeth Grinding: Nighttime Troubles 😬

Some kids grind their teeth at night without even knowing it. This can cause toothaches or make teeth feel sore in the morning. Teeth grinding is called “bruxism,” and while it may not be serious, it’s still important to keep an eye on it. Your dentist can help with advice on how to stop grinding and protect those teeth!

How to help: If your child is grinding their teeth, let the dentist know. They might recommend a mouthguard to wear at night for extra protection. 🛡️

4. Gum Infections 🩹

Sometimes, a toothache isn’t just about the tooth—it could be an issue with the gums! If gums are red, swollen, or bleeding, it could mean there’s an infection or inflammation. This can be caused by not brushing properly or by food getting stuck in between teeth.
How to help: Make sure your child brushes gently along the gum line and flosses to get rid of food stuck between teeth. Regular dental check-ups will help keep their gums healthy too!

5. New Teeth Coming In 🦷🌱

As kids grow, their adult teeth start to push through the gums, which can be uncomfortable. This is called “teething,” and it happens again when those big-kid molars come in. Your child might feel some soreness as these new teeth make their way to the surface.

How to help: A cool washcloth or soft food can help soothe the gums. It’s all part of growing up!
